416er

Went about 10 years ago and didn't gamble at the time. Never really had any desire to go prior to that. Within a few hours I was hooked. Fell in love with the energy, the casualness, and the fun factor. Have been back 15-16 times since and am now heading down 3-4 times annually. Always amazed at the pace of change and the pace of refurbishment. As a designer of interiors I am also always in awe of how far designers can go for the resorts and how far they can push the envelope. As soon as I return home I am already planning my next trip(s).

MGM Grand

MGM Grand

Stayed here 5 or 6 times now, the last being May 2015. Rooms are fine and the housekeeping was good. Nothing really to complain about. I was demoted from Gold level with MLife in 2015 so that can mean long lines at check-in/out. Gaming is typical of most MGM properties. The pool area is certainly great. Being at the south end of the Strip so if you have a lot planned at venues centre to north Strip it can be a bit of a long haul. If you are cool being on that end of the Strip I would say its worth the stay as the price is usually pretty good.

Mirage

Mirage

Have stayed here twice now with another coming up in 3 weeks. Rooms were nicely done, casino is a little dated. Had a few late night drunken meals at Carnegie. Rhumbar was a good way to start an evening. One of the best locations on the strip for MLifers like myself and its also the best resort for MLifers to take advantage of the $1 Michelobs across the street at Casino Royale. Its also not a bad walk to the Starbucks at Fashion Show that, for some reason, is the only Starbucks on the Strip that has realistic i.e. not "Strip" pricing for your morning jolt. Haven't taken in any of the shows on offer as of yet.

The Linq Hotel and Casino

The Linq Hotel and Casino

Very first time I came to Vegas in 2001 I stayed at the Imperial Palace. As a newbie it seemed fine at the time but when you start to explore the Strip you find out where it stood in the hierarchy of Las Vegas resorts. I am pretty impressed with what they have done with the place and the transformation to The Linq and while I haven't stayed at the rebranded resort I certainly would consider it as the pricing is reasonable, the location is great and the room pics look good.

New York-New York

New York-New York

Stayed in the hotel in 2014. The room I had was in one of the older towers so while clean and nicely appointed it was a little long in the tooth and in need of refurbishment. I saw some pics of other similar sized rooms that were more recently renovated. They certainly looked nice. I would describe the gaming floor and the casino in general as having a bit of a party vibe with louder music form the centre bar permeating the space but I am quite ok with that. The noise certainly did not travel upstairs to the room level. On that note, while some rooms in other resorts can be a little loud due to the day/night clubs and the use of outdoor space NYNY does not really have much of that going on so sleeping was never a problem.

Monte Carlo

Monte Carlo

What can I say about the Monte Carlo other than it is what it is. Stayed at MC 4 times now the last being in April 2015. We typically pick it for the price and the location. It's close enough to the action centre strip that staying there is a good choice for budget-minded travellers. I will say that during the last stay the resort was really showing its age and inattention to detail. Bags of laundry were left for over 24 hours in the hallways and while the suite cleaning was ok it is hard to cover dilapidated caulking in the tub and disguise the overall age of the FF & E (Furniture Fixtures and Equipment). For some reason I do find myself gambling often at MC. Overall its ok, and passable. Rumours are it is set for a refurbishment soon. That should rectify most of the issues at the resort.

Ten Things

1: Interior Design esp. Cosmo and Wynncore
2: Drinking laws (glass bans notwithstanding)
3: People watching from the patio at It's Five O'clock Somewhere Bar (always good times)
4: Hate to say it but feel I have to... the fountains of Bellagio
5: Got a thing for palm trees. Living in Canada will do that to a person
6: Amazing weather pretty much year round
7: $1 ice cold Michelobs at Casino Royale
8: 24-7 energy
9: Bond Bar!
10: 3:2 blackjack when you can find it
