Vegas is my favorite place to be; I make 2 - 3 trips there a year to indulge in video poker, drinking, overeating, and making my feet hurt trying to do/see as much as I can (everything looks so CLOSE!).

I was sad to see Star Trek: The Experience close - Vegas trips just won't be the same for me without winding down the evening with a Warp Core Breach. I spend an unhealthy amount of time scouring the Web to check out the latest rumors as to when/where/if it might reopen.

I HATE the current trend of de-theming the casinos -- the motifs are what make them incredible! It also pains me to see the old-school places like Stardust and New Frontier being torn down in favor of the soulless, generic megaliths.

Orleans

Orleans

The rooms were larger than one would expect for the price. Love the layout of the casino (vaguely zig-zag pattern makes everything seem easily-accessible), the food is decent, and Brendan's Irish Pub is a great place to have a whiskey or two. The video poker has decent paytables (am addicted to their 5-hand 9/6 JoB), and the drink service is AWESOME.On the downside, the beds are uncomfortable, the pillows suck, and last time we were there, some manner of insect feasted on us every night. The air conditioner is positioned such that if you close the window to block out the light from the Strip, you block the airflow - not a good thing in summertime. Overall, though, a great place to stay on the cheap if distance from the Strip is not a big issue (Rio and Palms are in fairly close proximity).

Ten Things

1: Star Trek: The Experience (RIP)
2: Comped rooms at the LV Hilton
3: Spice Market Buffet
4: Bartop video poker (2 sins, 1 seat!)
5: Bellagio fountains
6: The Monorail. No, seriously!
7: The little subterranean malls between the monorail depots and the casinos
8: The guilty pleasure of drinking at Rainforest Cafe
9: Planning itineraries for the next Vegas trip (Type A all the way, baby!)
10: Casino hosts. The very concept is wonderful, like Santa Claus, or nymphomaniacs.

"Planning itineraries for the next Vegas trip (Type A all the way, baby!)" My wife thinks I'm an über-nerd for all the planning I do before the trip. What the hell are Excel spreadsheets for anyway if they're not for planning the next Vegas trip?!

Loved your comment about me being Joy from My Name is Earl. I love that show and I love her character. I think you and your (wife I'm assuming) KungFuApril are hilarious. People just get on my nerves to bad sometimes I guess. :-) Rock on. ^m^

The same can be said about Vegas: "If Spock were here, he’d say that I was an irrational, illogical human being for going on a mission like this... Sounds like fun!" - Captain James T. Kirk
