I've been visiting Vegas for as long as I can remember, since my childhood in the early 80's. As a teenager, I became fascinated with the history and style of this dynamic city while my peers could never understand what all the fuss was about. Today, I appreciate the city from both a pleasurable standpoint (ultra-lounges and chic boutiques) and a historic understanding of the city's heritage. I enjoy both the classy side of Vegas (Wynn and Bellagio) along with the trashier side (Cheetah's and Liberace). I don't believe that Vegas should define itself as one or the other, but rather celebrate the fact that it offers everything, kinda like having a buffet with both caviar and Rice Krispie Treats.

Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas

Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas

Finally, a new hotel that doesn't play the "bland is better" game... *cough* Aria. One of the most unique resorts in town, the Cosmo has proved that creative features (Art-O-Mat) and quirky details (domino's in the commons area) are what people love about this town. With arguably the best selection of restaurants in town and a group of bars and lounges that put any hotspot to shame, this location proves you don't have to sacrifice whimsy and fun to be luxurious. And of course you have those gorgeous terraces...

Never in a million years would I have thought Bill's Barbary Gamblin' Coast would be transformed into such a den of sexy swank and glamour. The room design is beyond anything I've seen in Vegas before, but the real star is the personal and genuinely friendly service and small, unique touches that actually make this a true boutique hotel experience. I just hope the Caesars bean counters don't start cost-cutting the little things that make this place special.

SLS Las Vegas

SLS Las Vegas

The monkey decor rules. The casino carpet rules. The cotton candy foie gras rules. The fact that they made a fun and funky gem instead of imploding the Sahara is what rules the most.

Golden Nugget

Golden Nugget

The epitome of Vegas swank with it's great service, fancy digs, friendliness, and old-school charm that's sorely missed on the Strip. While it's referred to as the class of downtown, this really is the class of Vegas. Oh, and the fact that it has the raddest pool in the world doesn't hurt either. Refined yet casual, not since the Desert Inn has a hotel provided such a genuine experience in Vegas.

Planet Hollywood

Themed rooms (the "Mommie Dearest" suite), awesome restaurants (Pink's... so yummy!), a rockin' music selection in the casino (love the nighttime dance mix), shopping anyone can afford (two ABC Stores!), and unique little touches make this place a winner. Yes, it's gaudy, but it's gaudiness done in such high quality with everything from the purple headboards in the room to the rainbow crystal in the casino. Finally, a resort with more emphasis on fun than attitude!

Ten Things

1: That combination cigarette smoke and coconut suntan lotion smell in the summer
2: The Fireside Lounge at The Peppermill
3: Buying useless crap in your hotel's signature store
4: Shrimp cocktail at Golden Gate
5: The Mirage rainforest
6: Re-enacting scenes from Showgirls at the Forum Shops
7: Champagne and buffalo wings from room service at 4 in the morning
8: Jello shots at Fat Tuesdays
9: Chatting with strippers about clothes and make-up
10: Walking back to your room and passing out in bed as the sun rises
